Emphasizing conformity with the national status and culture in all countries, it intends to increase the quality of education in accordance with the expectations of the business world and civil society, share experiences and ensure the validity of the gianed competences.
The Bologna process launched with the cooperation among Ministers of Education of 29 European countries in 1999. Turkey participated in this process in 2001. While the process was aimed to be completed in 2010, 48 countries are currently involved in the scope of the process
The process was launced in 1999 with the purposes of promoting students/staff mobility in higher education instituons, easily understandable and comparable degree system, joint credit system, two-step education as undergradute/graduate, quality insurance and creating European doctoral and research areas. As a result of the follow-up and improvement conferences conducted every other year, some proposals including the 3-step education system (BA, MA, PhD), national competences framework, quality insurance (in accordance with the European principles and standards), student participation, international participation, recognition of diploma and study periods, lifelong learning and creation of joint degrees were acccepted in London in 2007.
